Heather Scolaro FNP-BC is a board certified family nurse practitioner with experience in primary care, functional medicine and integrative care. She graduated with her advanced nursing education in 2017 from the University of Indianapolis as a Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society member. She received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2012 from Indiana University as a Jesse H. and Beulah Cox Scholar, receiving a full merit scholarship for academic achievement and work ethic. Prior to becoming a family nurse practitioner, Heather worked as a registered nurse in critical care for five years, specializing in trauma, surgery, and medical sepsis at a Level 1 hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Caring for patients with life-threatening complications of chronic illness sparked her interest in preventative medicine, chronic condition down-regulation, and restoring balance in the body to facilitate healing. She has been a member of the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) since 2017 and has completed advanced practice modules through IFM to further her expertise in the field. Heather believes one's most valued asset is their health and she takes a “root cause” approach to identifying and solving symptoms of chronic illness and imbalance. She has functional medicine experience in cardio-metabolic conditions, auto-immune conditions, intestinal permeability and dysbiosis, food/environmental allergies, micro-nutrient deficiencies, toxin exposure/burden, and bio-identical hormone therapy. Heather collaborates with her patients and a multi-disciplinary team to tailor personalized, actionable plans to help each patient attain the best version of themselves through personal transformation and healing. Heather enjoys learning about nutrition and has developed her own backyard aeroponic garden. She seeks beauty in nature and takes road trips to explore the less traveled natural wonders of the United States. She believes in the value of spiritual wellness to attain wholeness. In the words of Florence Nightingale, “The needs of the spirit are as crucial to health as those individual organs which make up the body”. Heather has a growing interest in quantum physics and bio-energetic healing modalities.
